Outdoor SunSpaces News

If you're thinking of adding one of our garden rooms to your property, you'll probably want to see a few pictures before you make your mind up. Here are some choice snaps from the SunSpaces photo gallery:

Garden room with sliding walls

Here's an elegant image with which to get the ball rolling - the sliding glass walls give this room a seamless and modern look that's very appealing indeed.

Fixed panel garden room

Of course, you don't have to have sliding walls if you don't want to - this fixed panel garden room looks exceptionally stylish in its own right, giving its owner a comfortable, attractive place in which to sit and survey the garden proper.

If you so desire, your garden room doesn't even have to be attached to your house. Our detached garden rooms make spectacularly modern standalone features, and you may find that, by distancing your SunSpace from the property itself, you create for yourself a peaceful retreat where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of domestic life.

Everything you need to know about our gorgeous Garden Rooms!

We think that our Garden Rooms largely speak for themselves; easy to build and even easier on the eyes, they make a wonderful addition to any property and enable you to spend much more time in your outdoor living space.

However, we appreciate that you may have a few questions to ask before you commit to purchasing a Garden Room of your own, and we'd like to do whatever we can to answer them and put your mind at ease. To that end, here are the answers to some the questions we're always being asked...

Q: What is a garden room?
A: A garden room is an outdoor structure that can be either be built against the outer wall of your property or detached as a standalone feature. Our garden rooms are available with either sliding walls or fixed panels; either way, your garden room will allow you to get a lot more from your outdoor space, keeping you warm, dry and comfortable even when the weather is bad.

Q: What's the difference between a garden room and a veranda?
A: Simply put, a garden room has walls/windows while a veranda is open-sided. Click below to learn more about our verandas.

Q: Can I install a SunSpaces Garden Room myself?
A: Yes! Our Garden Rooms come with instructional DVDs and clear assembly guidelines, so you should find it easy to construct your new extension without any professional help. However, we do have an in-house installation team who will be more than happy to do the work for you if that's what you'd prefer.

Q: Do I need planning permission for a garden room?
A: No, except in certain circumstances. As a general rule, planning permission is only required if you live in a conservation area or listed building, or if your garden room would cross a property border. You may wish to check with your local planning authority before purchasing a garden room, just to make sure.

Q: What sizes are available?
A: Our Garden Rooms come in a number of 'standard' sizes, but we can provide bespoke solutions if your project goes beyond our usual dimensions. Feel free to contact us below for further details.

Q: What colours do SunSpaces offer?
A: We offer three colours as standard: Graphite Grey, Cream, and White. A wide range of alternative RAL colours are available for a small additional charge.

Q: How much does a Garden Room cost?
A: This depends on the size of your garden room, as well as on several other variables. Email info@sunspaces.co.uk to get a free, no-obligation quotation for your extension.

Garden lounges

Is your living room letting you down? Do you wish you had a brighter, more beautiful space in which to spend your spare time? In that case, a SunSpaces garden lounge could be the perfect solution for you - our stunning structures are easy to build, they come in a variety of styles and colours, and they generally require no planning permission whatsoever!

If you need a bit of outdoor inspiration for your new garden lounge, here are some ideas and suggestions from the SunSpaces website. If you'd like to chat with our team and discuss your project further, feel free to contact us!

Garden lounge idea

This gorgeous garden lounge has a set of sliding glass walls, and this really helps to break down the barrier that separates indoors from out. On warm days, the doors slide open to let the sunshine in; when the weather is poor, they can be kept shut whilst still giving the room a bright, airy feel. Those armchairs look comfy, too!

Garden veranda

This veranda has room for both a lounge area and a dining space, both of which are protected from the elements by the stylish glass roof.

Detached garden lounge

It's worth remembering that our verandas don't have to be attached to your property. Many customers choose a detached veranda instead; if you want a peaceful, comfortable retreat at the far end of your garden, this could well be the choice for you!

Garden room

A garden room makes a fine addition to practically any property. If you're unsure as to whether or not a garden room could benefit your home, well, allow us to tip the scales a little - here are 5 great reasons to add one ASAP!

1. Extend your living space.

By adding a SunSpace to your property, you're effectively adding an extra room to your house. This room can be used pretty much however you please - for example, as a dining room, a lounge, a playroom for the kids, or something else entirely! The sky's the limit!

2. Get more from your garden.

If you live in Britain, your garden is probably a frigid no-go zone from October to March. A garden room will allow you to enjoy your outdoor space even in colder months - SunSpaces are usable practically all year 'round, as this diagram shows:

It's all the pleasure of being in the garden without the unpleasantness of being cold!

3. Save yourself the hassle of a conservatory.

Adding a garden room to your property achieves almost exactly the same effect as adding a conservatory, and yet a garden room is significantly more cost-effective than any conservatory or orangery. It's also easier to install - planning permission is almost never required, and all SunSpaces products are supplied with instructional DVDs that allow you to build your new outdoor retreat without any professional assistance!

(Of course, if you would prefer your garden room to be installed by a professional, we do offer a full installation service throughout the UK.)

4. Create more storage space.

Starting to run out of room in your house? No need for a clear-out - the addition of a SunSpaces garden room will increase your home's storage space significantly! And don't worry about your property going missing, because our sunrooms are exceptionally secure, with lockable doors and toughened glass to prevent break-ins.

5. Increase the value of your home.

If you ever decide to up sticks and move to a new home, you should find that your garden room noticeably increases the value of the property you're trying to sell. After all, what discerning home buyer wouldn't want the extra space and versatility afforded by a SunSpaces structure?

Veranda 8

August has arrived once again! (Time really does fly, doesn't it?) This means that you've only got about a month of summer left to enjoy - if you haven't spent any quality time in the garden yet, now's the time to get moving!

Here are few ways in which you can get more from your garden before autumn rears its dismal head:
  • Plant some flowers. Planting is a very rewarding outdoor activity, and if you want your outdoor space to be pretty and colourful through autumn and winter, now is the time to act. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea recommends planting lilies and colchiums (also known as autumn crocus and naked lady) in August; additionally, if you want to try your hand at growing vegetables, this time of year is good for planting spinach, carrots, lettuces, and turnips.

  • Make time for dinner. Outdoor dining is a luxury that we aren't often afforded here in the UK, so if you do find yourself free on a rare sunny evening, be sure to take advantage of it!

  • Play with the kids. If you have children, be sure to enjoy some outdoor time spent running around with them before the weather takes a turn for the worse. We know how difficult it can be to pull them away from their screens, but if they miss out on the sunny summer fun, they'll regret it just as much as you!

  • Do nothing. The garden is a great place to relax, and if you can find the time, it's always nice to just lounge in a deck chair (or, better yet, a sun lounger) and do nothing at all. Just sit back, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and chill out - you've earned it!
Of course, if you want to continue enjoying your garden after summer ends, a SunSpace could be a great investment for you. Our garden rooms greatly extend the period during which you can enjoy your garden - more information here!
